What is Swing? Swing is a style of jazz that emerged in the United States during the 1920s and early 1930s, swing became widely popular across the nation from the mid-1930s. Its name comes from the focus on the off-beat, or the typically weaker beat. Swing bands often highlighted soloists who improvised on the melody within the arrangement.
